How do I require approval for performance reviews?

As we see it, there are 2 types of approval processes for performance reviews.

1. Calibration - This is typically where the manager of managers reviews the Performance-Values Matrix (if enabled) for each of his manager's team to get a sense of how that manager is evaluating his employees. This can be done at all management levels and as part of a formal approval process, although this "team" calibration is often done without "secondary" or formal approval in the application.

2. Require Final Approval - Some clients require a more formally documented process for approving reviews. This formal process often involves the HR team to ensure reviews are conducted within the organization's operating procedures and ensure comments are compliant with the desired culture and, in some cases, regulations. This setting only allows for Admin and Super users to approve reviews.

When the Final Approval (sometimes referred to as "secondary" approval) is enabled the review forms include additional approval fields for comments and to submit the review.

Want to allow Manager users to approve Reviews? There is an additional setting to enable: Enable Manager Users to Approve Performance Reviews.

The calibration process stated mentioned in #1 above is always encouraged.

When the calibration meeting between managers is not a possibility, then #2 is a great option. This gives the manager of the manager a process to review each employee's assessment as they are submitted and then pass it along to the Admin or Super user for official approval. (This is also a great option for organizations that conduct reviews on employee anniversary date rather than all at once.)

Admin users can enable Require Final Approval and Enable Managers Users to Approve on the Account Settings page.
