Understanding the Distinction Between Primary and Secondary Managers
Updated over a week ago

When adding your team to your WorkDove account, it's important to assign the appropriate managers. Assigning managers determines who has access to view and edit the employee's records

Primary Manager

This manager oversees the employee's day-to-day activities and responsibilities. Typically, they are responsible for evaluating, coaching, and conducting regular check-in conversations with the employee.

Only one Primary Manager can be assigned. If an employee does not have a Primary Manager, this field can be left blank.

โ€‹Secondary Manager:

This is a manager who may temporarily oversee day-to-day activities or project-based tasks of the employee. While this manager may conduct check-ins and provide coaching, their involvement is typically limited.

You can assign more than one Secondary Manager. However, it's important to note that managers above the Primary Manager in your organization chart will automatically have access. Therefore, there is no need to assign higher-level managers as Secondary Managers.

For Example:

Melissa is the Primary Manager of Mary and Preston. She is a Secondary Manager of Greg. Melissa will have access to the records of each of these employees.

Melissa is also considered a Cascading Manager for everyone below her direct reports in the organizational chart. This means she also has access to their records by default.

Notifications

Both Primary and Secondary managers receive email notifications regarding the employee's records. They may receive emails when the employee completes a check-in, submits a self-assessment, provides 360-degree feedback, and more.
