What is the Performance Values Matrix?
What is the Performance Values Matrix?
Updated over 10 months ago

The Performance Values Matrix (PVM) is a powerful tool that provides managers with an immediate and comprehensive view of their employees' strengths and areas for improvement. This tool helps them pinpoint where their coaching efforts should be focused to support their team members in achieving excellence.

The Performance Values Matrix offers valuable insights into individual employees, various teams, and the entire organization. With this information at hand, management can make informed decisions on how to coach employees according to their specific needs. On a broader scale, the organization can use these insights to enhance overall performance while simultaneously creating an excellent work environment for its employees.

See below for more information about each quadrant and how to navigate the PVM!

STAR Employees: STAR employees excel in both performance and displaying desired company behaviors. They are exceptional team players and should be nurtured for career advancement and mentoring opportunities. When identifying potential leaders, STAR employees should be the first consideration.

POTENTIAL Employees: POTENTIAL employees may not have met their performance goals, but they embody a positive attitude and align with the company culture. This might be due to factors like being new or lacking sufficient training. Coaching for POTENTIAL employees should concentrate on enhancing their skills and knowledge.

ALIGNED Employees: ALIGNED employees meet their performance goals but exhibit behaviors that don't align with the company culture. Coaching for ALIGNED employees should focus on behavior modification to make them better team members and align them more closely with the organization's culture.

RIGHT FIT Employees: RIGHT FIT employees neither meet their performance goals nor display the desired behaviors. In such cases, management should consider whether they are the right fit for the organization. Coaching for RIGHT FIT employees should center on rapid improvements in both performance and behavior, either through coaching to improve skills or exploring other suitable options.

Accessing the WorkDove System Performance Values Matrix

To access the Performance Values Matrix, navigate to your Performance Review application. Once in the application, click on the “PV Matrix” icon. Mangers, Partners, Super Users, and Admins have access to this view.

Though both the employee and manager have the opportunity to provide ratings during the review process, the manager’s scoring of the employee is what will show on the final PVM placement.

The PVM view will display your team/company Performance Values Matrix data from your most recent review cycle. You have access to a current view, past view, and filters to help pinpoint the data you would like to view.

Your view of the PVM will vary based on your PVM configuration. To learn more about the two different views available, check out this article.
