How do I determine one score for performance reviews to correlate to our compensation / merit increases?
How do I determine one score for performance reviews to correlate to our compensation / merit increases?

Currently, each record includes a score for Performance and a score for Behaviors (your organization may call them Core Values).

We have an option to enable an Overall Score that you determine based on the placement within the Performance-Values Matrix.

Example of recommended Overall Score when managers tend to inflate ratings - Performance-Values Matrix

Overall Score allows us to assign a number (like a legend) to the 16 individual boxes within the Performance-Values Matrix. This allows for competencies to still be equal to job performance which reduces rater bias (since all data points within an individual box receive the same score).

This new data point becomes a part of the review record, and is included in the export.

Note: Some clients opt to export this information to an excel file to apply their compensation or bonus formula.

Here is an example of how the Overall Score applies to scored reviews.

The score is rounded up based on the matrix placement.

Employee 1 (blue dot)

Performance score = 2.67

Competency Score = 3.5

Overall Score = 2

The Overall Score is a 2 because the employee did not meet expectations for performance (Y-axis) but exceeded expectations on competencies (X-axis). Therefore, the employee falls in the top left quadrant of the Potential section of the PV Matrix.

Employee 2 (green dot)

Performance score = 3.5

Competency Score = 3.75

Overall Score = 3

The Overall Score is 3 because the employee exceeded expectations for performance (Y-axis) and exceeded expectations on competencies (X-axis). Therefore, the employee falls in the bottom left quadrant of the Star section of the PV Matrix.

Employee 3 (green dot)

Performance score = 4

Competency Score = 4

Overall Score = 5

The Overall Score is 5 because the employee exceeded expectations for performance (Y-axis) and exceeded expectations on competencies (X-axis). Therefore, the employee falls in the middle of the 4 Star quadrants. The PV matrix rounds them up to the 5 since they are on the line of the top right quadrant of the Star section.
